Gladiator is an epic historical action drama film starring Russell Crowe. Set in ancient Rome, the film tells the story of Maximus Decimus Meridius, a skilled Roman general.

Summary: 

Maximus Meridias (Russel Crowe), a Roman general that has been named the keeper of Rome and its empire by Emperor Marcus Aurelius thus, giving him the privilege to be his successor. However, the emperor was killed by his power-hungry jealous son Commodus and later orders the death of Maximus. Fortunately, Maximus managed to escape but was captured by slave traders and sent to North Africa. He ends up being a slave and was forced to be a gladiator. With the twist of fate that happened to Maximus, he remained strong and hopeful that he might someday fulfill the wish of the late emperor. As a victorious gladiator, he was sent back to Rome to participate in the Gladiatorial Games (a battle to the death of the most famous gladiators) in which he had plans of taking revenge and gain his freedom against the man who took away his family and the good things he once has.


Maximus (Russell Crowe) is a loyal general serving under the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris). However, the emperor's corrupt son, Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), is consumed by power and plots to take the throne for himself. When Maximus refuses to support Commodus, he is betrayed and his family is brutally murdered.

Captured and sold into slavery, Maximus finds himself in the brutal world of gladiatorial combat. Renamed "The Spaniard," he rises through the ranks, captivating audiences with his exceptional skill and determination. All the while, Maximus seeks vengeance against Commodus, longing for justice for his slain family.

As the gladiatorial games gain popularity, Maximus gains the attention of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen), Commodus' sister, who secretly despises her brother's reign. Maximus forms alliances with fellow gladiators and gains the respect and admiration of the Roman people, becoming a symbol of hope and resistance.

The film culminates in a climactic showdown between Maximus and Commodus in the Colosseum, where the fate of Rome hangs in the balance. Maximus fights not only for his personal revenge but also for the ideals of honor, freedom, and the restoration of a just Rome.

"Gladiator" showcases breathtaking action sequences, intense drama, and powerful performances, particularly Russell Crowe's portrayal of Maximus. The calibre of his performance is stunning. Along with an excellent supporting cast, Crowe truly transfers the intense emotions of this flick to the audience.10/10

I can't remember how many times I watch this movie...I can rate this one as 9/10, almost perfect isn't it??? I like this movie a lot especially the tactics that Gladiator used in the arena during the fight...
